What is Web 2.0?
At its heart, Web 2.0 is just a marketing term. Web 2.0 is a term used to describe Web sites that do more than just present static information. The term has come to describe Web sites that have a keen focus on communications and communities-- letting users interact with one another and participate in content developer. Web 2.0 sites often blur the line between reader and author, creator and consumer.
Characteristics of Web 2.0 Sites

- personalized to the user
- free and readily available
- don't require the user to install desktop software
- easy to access
- rights and access controls
- work to build community
- allow for collaboration with anyone, anywhere, across a variety of media types (voice, video, text)
- new content is being continually created
- address the need for connections
- fast -- works in real-time
- lots of information, non-linear links -- it can feel like stream-of-consciousness
- evolving continually -- following the desires/demands of the user base
